Cliff Climb

Koko Crater Cliff Climb
Rather than running up the Koko Crater stairs, we decided to reach the top by climbing the cliff. I had some bit of excitement today when I almost slipped off this cliff but my buddy (shown below) grabbed my hands as we took turns helping each other up challenging sections of the climb - this hike normally has a rope to assist in difficult sections, but there was none to be found so we improvised and rerouted our path. Aside from some minor scrapes while slipping down the cliff, all is good! Believe or not, this particular area he is climbing is an easy section.

Windy Cliffs of Koko Crater

Cliff Winds

I've showed pictures of the half way point up the [ steps to this cliff here ]
And another picture of the [ start of the steps here ]

This photo shows portions of the Cliff rim that we hiked down to after the stairs climb this evening.

Mahalo nui (big thanks) to my friend for being a huge sport for first, endured the pain of climbing up 1060 steps, then, hiking along the cliff rim of Koko Crater.

Superwoman at Kaena Point

Super woman
Who needs Superman when you have Superwoman as a biking partner!!! This is my friend hoisting the bike up as she navigates her way through a narrow cliff passage during a section of our 14 miles (22 km) bike trek this afternoon at Kaena Point...it was actually longer than 14 miles since much of the terrain was rolling hills scattered with potholes and rocks of all sizes.

On a more serious note, please visit Lynn at Cheltenham DP to see if you can help in locating Madeleine who was allegedly abducted from her apartment

Mauka to Makai

M
From the mountains, I decided to bring u back to the ocean, here with Sara, Linda and I at Makapu'u about a week ago, right before they left on a flight. Unfortunately, the lighting was bad as the sun was setting behind the mountains but the picture brings a smile to my face.

To answer some questions from the two previous post:
For Abraham Lincoln of Brookeville, Ohio: the hike took approximately 5 hours round trip
For others, the unnamed location was in Waikiki and it sure does exists!!!

Name this location...

Name this location...
This is another "name this location" photo - for those who are familiar with this place, you may notice something peculiar about this photo - or perhaps not - it is facinating how the human mind "fills in the gaps" for things we do not see. In picture, as in life, its never always as it appears but what you believe it to be. Believe in yourself!

May Day is Lei Day

This post is dedicated to [ Ice_Molly of Hayle DP ], a "transplanted" hawaiian now residing in Hayle. Last year, I focused on the [ lei making process ] and posted some pictures of my Auntie making a Haku lei. This year, I wanted to focus on the music and pageantry of this May Day event.
May 1st is May Day, also known as Lei day. May Day celebrates not just the sharing of Lei's, it symbolizes the spirit of Aloha that resounds through the na'au of the islands native people, the Kanaka Maoli and Kama'aina.

Some of the performers included the Makaha Sons (as seen above minus camera man), Kapena, Cazimeros (evening show).

When I was a kid, I never quite appreciated May Day because we (class) had to sit still for looooong periods of time in this very park under the sun all morning. I think I enjoy it alot more now, having the freedom to roam and enjoy all the events.

The gentleman with the camera in the above image went on the stage and started photographing the crowd as well as John and Jerome Koko and Moon Kauakahi. He's got the best shots in the house!!!

For your viewing pleasure ;)

Live Aloha!

P.S. I normally post the previous days image the next day, so its now 12:30 AM, May 2nd as I write this for May 1st images =)

Mexican Style - Micasa

Micasa!
I admit, I was not prepared for Theme day so I pulled a photo from a couple of weeks ago. This is Micasa, a mexican restaurant I pass by every time I biked home from Waikiki and never tried until recently when I went for breakfast and dinner. The breakfast was quite good and prices reasonable. The Dinner was a tad more expensive with ala carts going for about $9 and meals for $12 or more.
