In Memory of Honey Gurl

Honey GurlAnyone whose been up to the North Shore, at one time or another, may have seen Honey Gurl basking under the warm Hawaiian sunlight surrounded by her buffet of choice - limu - seaweed!

So calm and gentle, she brought a smile to people of all ages, and from all parts of the world, who had the privilege to watch in her natural habitat. These beautiful marine species take on average 25 years to reach sexual maturity and thus why they take so long to recover from population crashes and are federally protected species.

Some time within the last 24 hours, Honey Gurl, 30 years of age, was held defenseless in the brutal hands of her spineless, heartless assailant. Her remains were discovered this morning, partially buried in sand, with her shell floating in the nearby waters.

Attached is a picture I took of her last year.

Wow. If it was a guy he should have it nuts pulled off and people should laugh at him.

Some people more wicked than others and for why I have no clues.

Kala, I am so happy that you have this splendid photo of this wonderful animal. I'm with Abraham; I have no idea what goes through some people's minds and the perpetrator of this dastardly act should be punished severely! Thanks for the wonderful post.

Oh how sad - how tragic - how absolutely beautiful she was. Animal cruelty - any cruelty - but somehow animals: innocent, beautiful, it's beyond me to understand how anyone could want to harm such a wonderful creature. I'm speechless and I'm so sorry, Kala. I can just imagine how terribly upset you are. Thankyou for the photograph.

Please let us know if the authorities catch the bastard. I sure hope so.
