Mountains & Rain
Waianae Mountain range as seen from Kamehameha Highway heading from the north shore to Wahiawa. These fields used to be filled with pineapples and sugar cane, but the Dole company is slowly moving these to other countries. I'm sad to see them go ...
I did notice several new fields filled with coffee trees on this drive ... and as a coffee lover ... I have to say that is GREAT news!

I like its outline in the distance.
Sorry about the loss of revenue but the foto is calm and restful.
I love the atmosphere in this shot. Amazing!!
I am a coffee lover too...:-)
Ciao from Orta lake (but no kayak today...there's a huge storm at the moment) :-)
absolutely stunning dana!
why are they moving away? the land no longer suitable?
anyway, a wonderful shot!
Another great landscape Dana, I guess those mountains are volcanic?
(to kris : in my opinion it's more a money issue...) Great shot! I love the colors (browns and greens) ;)
This may be good news in the coffee has a higher market value than fruit.
The pineapples and bananas are here in the Philippines, Dana. I've heard, sometime ago, that DOLE is expanding its land area here in the Philippines to plant more pineapples. Hopefully, its good for the people of Mindanao.
I love the panoramic view. Very nice combination of colors.
very atmospheric photo. glad you're back on track =) with great new photos.
Good to see you're back Dana. Looks like a good rain. If they grow Kona coffee they'll be raking in the dough because it is quite pricey in the mainland!
Super land- and cloud-scape, Dana. It's wierd when an area is known for something, and then it slowly goes away. Here on the mainland, cane sugar and pineapples are associated with Hawaii from 60 years of advertising it. I grew up in Orange County, CA, when one could drive for miles through grove after grove of orange trees. My folks home was built in a housing development that replaced an orange grove in the 50s around when D-land was being built. The groves are gone now, or you really have to know where one of the few scattered ones are to find them. Life moves on at a quick pace, eh?

Like Kim said, there are many old orange groves in FL that are being replaced by strip malls and housing. Pretty sad.
That said, I love the photo. As a Colorado-born mountain girl, I love anything larger than a big hill. Stunning.
What a beautiful photo, Dana. I love the powerful sky over the mountains and the way the patches of sun colour the landscape. But I remember visiting Hawaii 20 years ago and it was indeed full of pineapple groves, it was a beautiful sight. Through our daily photos and comments, we're all definitely piecing together the various aspects of globalization. How about one day we all do a shot on the theme of 'global warming' ? I'm sure we would all have something to show...
