Summer is for lovers

I decided to put a hawaiian song today since it is HonoluluDP after all - so I hope this song will get you into the mood - press PLAY!!!:

Today's post is more about other people's post because love is for sharing and these people captured a moment in time that will be forever cherished by the subjects of the respective photos:

Mele...
E aloha ae ana nö au
I ka makani kaulana o ka `äina
A`u e ho`oheno nei
Ka makani kä`ili aloha

Hui:
Ku`u pua, ku`u lei, ku`u milimili ë
Ku`u lei kau i ka wëkiu
A he milimili `oe a he hiwahiwa na`u
A he lei mau no ku`u kino

I aloha `ia nö ia home
Ia home luakaha a ka malihini
A`u i noho ai a kupa
Ka makani kä`ili aloha
~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ *
I love the
Famous wind of this land
Mine to cherish
The wind named Love-snatcher

Chorus:
My flower, my lei, mine to cherish
My lei that I adore above all others
You are my favorite and precious to me
A lei forever for my body

Beloved is this home
This home so delightful to visitors
Where I stayed many years
With my love that was once snatched by the wind

  1. Good morning Dan & Kala,

After yesterday's profound post (it was also the 16th anniv of my Mum's death - a natural time for reflection on it all), today's beauty provkes my thoughts in a different way. It is the power that transcends its simplicity. I feel lucky that I, like you, live in a country where it so easy to step into places like this. Not to take it for granted, but to take inspiration, even to feel humble, & drink it in, breathe it in. Yes, this could be Portugal,in its coloration - sky, ocean, sand - heavenly emptiness, right to the cliff formation, but with a different geology. Going to look for a couple ofshots to post to compare/confirm.
Song: wonderful, more so because of translation.
Lastly,I thank & congratulate you for this idea to use other people's captures to represent universal themes that are of value to you. All for it. i just wish I wasn't the world's worst bloggger, as nothing seems to work to introduce a blogroll or any links!

  4. You guys are too funny - since imaginations are running abundant, why not read a poem by Edgar Allan Poe...

In Heaven a spirit doth dwell
    "Whose heart-strings are a lute";
    None sing so wildly well
    As the angel Israfel,
And the giddy stars (so legends tell),
Ceasing their hymns, attend the spell
    Of his voice, all mute.

    Tottering above
    In her highest noon,
    The enamored moon
    Blushes with love,
While, to listen, the red levin
    (With the rapid Pleiads, even,
    Which were seven,)
    Pauses in Heaven.

And they say (the starry choir
    And the other listening things)
    That Israfeli's fire
    Is owing to that lyre
By which he sits and sings-
    The trembling living wire
    Of those unusual strings.

But the skies that angel trod,
Where deep thoughts are a duty-
    Where Love's a grown-up God-
    Where the Houri glances are
    Imbued with all the beauty
Which we worship in a star.

    Therefore thou art not wrong,
    Israfeli, who despisest
    An unimpassioned song;
    To thee the laurels belong,
    Best bard, because the wisest!
    Merrily live, and long!

    The ecstasies above
    With thy burning measures suit-
Thy grief, thy joy, thy hate, thy love,
With the fervor of thy lute-
Well may the stars be mute!

Yes, Heaven is thine; but this
    Is a world of sweets and sours;
    Our flowers are merely- flowers,
And the shadow of thy perfect bliss
    Is the sunshine of ours.

    If I could dwell
    Where Israfel
Hath dwelt, and he where I,
He might not sing so wildly well
    A mortal melody,
While a bolder note than this might swell
From my lyre within the sky.
