War in the Middle East - earth quake and tsunami in Indonesia ... All of this considered, it seams that there is nothing that I could post that would not seam trivial at the moment. For those of us not affected by the recent tragedies around the world, we should take a moment and thank God for what we have. (To avoid offending anyone ... if you’re an atheist, well - you don't have to thank anyone.) It is in times like these that I reflect on the fact that life is precious, short and should never be taken for granted. For those of you who are affected or know someone who is … my thoughts and prayers are with you.On to the trivial … Today’s photo is of a a Norfolk Pine. These are very common on central Oahu, but can be seen pretty much anywhere throughout the islands. Here is a link to more info if you’re interested.

Great choice of the photos for such a thoughtful entry.
Tragedies that are happening at the moment are very said and hard to contemplate, but lets hope for the better tomorrow.
Beauty can be a great solace, to show that life goes on, that beauty still exists and is as much a part of the "real" world as the places where violence destroys...
Yes, human beings can be very cruel to one another. Power and politics are too often culprits. Living each day to its fullest is essential for all of us. Thank you for the spiritual words and the photos of nature.
A sad day and by the looks of it, everyday is a sad day. We can blame the politicians as much as we want, but we the inhabitants have just as much responsibility. A lot of us just sit comfortably and let it happen. For example, some idiot in Congress wants to limit free use of the internet. Wars are now based on revenge. It's become very selfish and I see no end of it, not in our generation anyway. We can, however, lay the foundations for change. There's a little one listening and he/she will be the one to see the change. Godbless.
I thank god for a lot of things, most of all that I´m in good health an born into a safe and "working" country.

There are tons of Norfolk Pines in Florida and they are one of my favorite trees to see there! Much more character than many palm trees.
