Two photos from this past Sunday's 24 mile women's canoe race from Kailua to Waikiki for Christi and Wendi of Las Vegas DP! Thanks for the request =)
The first photo is outside of Makapu'u - the second photo is outside of Lanikai
Not for the beginner...
Faces of determination...
don´t they use wooden kanu ?
ReplyDeletethe first pic doesn´t look easy at all...WOW!
Great shots! Lots of environmental and cultural history here. Love the facial expressions, too.
ReplyDeleteFischerbirgit: Yes - during the sprint season Koa's are required in races - but during the long distance season fiberglass ones are used since koa canoes are very expensive to replace if they get damaged - a small number of people will race in a Koa during the big Moloka'i to O'ahu race...unfortunately, since I will be on a trip at tht time, I will not get to take pics of that race =(
ReplyDeleteKate: Thanks =)
Both AWESOME shots Nic...especially love the close-up of the yellow one...I know you had to have zoomed in...how far away were you? And were you one of those guys just leisurely riding at the back of another canoe...snapping away? Are you the "official race" photographer? ;-)
ReplyDeletecool pic

The color in the top photo is outstanding. However it is the waves crashing against the rocks that sends a chill down my spine.
