Life is a Beach

This photo was taken at Waimea Bay - the "surfboard" you see is actually a "paddleboard" that lifegaurds use for rescues. Its interesting - as often as I have been to the beach in small waves and in large ... I've never actually sean anyone get rescued. Hmmm ... Anyone have any cool rescue stories to share?

  2. I was in Formentera (spain) with a friend of mine and we were playing with the waves, a few metres from the shore and the water was not so deep, but at one point one big wave came and press us in a hole.
My friend she is not able to swim and started to be panicked and she started to hang me pushing us under water (she's taller and bigger than me, so I was really pushed underwater)...I started to shout:"HELP!" and wave my hands but from the beach all the paople thought we were joking, because the water close to us was not deep.

Finally an old man passing nearby understood that we were in trouble and came to save my friend and I...:-)

  3. Wow - that was quite a story, Liz - scary - well, last week some guy had his canoe split in half outside Kailua - a carbon fiber canoe! His gf or female friend was on another canoe and crying. I paddled my canoe and told him to grab on the back side and towed him and his canoe in - not exactly a rescue worth mentioning but I have to say, when going out in the ocean, always bring something to drink! Should something happen at least you will have fluids to hold you until help arrives or until you reach shore! =)

I once had water leaking into my canoe while way out in the ocean and it started to sink deeper and deeper into the water - the water was too rough for my friends to see what was happening so they were gone from sight - after 1.5 hours, I managed to make it to shore before it sunk but by that time, it was almost completely submerged!

I can go on and on about near death experiences but I guess I have to go to sleep =)

  7. Interesting Danafaye! And hey! It's at Waimea, my photo request! =)

No "rescued" stories to tell...but I did rescue someone once...well, it was only for my lifeguard training at our local pool...but I got that big heavy guy up from under the water, and over to the side where the "medics" took over! LOL! (=

  8. First time at Hanauma Bay (not sure of the spelling! Sorry...) some guys went beyond the reef walls (on the roght hand side of the beach) and the tide slammed one of them against the rock wall. A bunch of people were watching, thinking that they were playing, until they realized that the guy was unconscious... He was taken out by some life guards and firemen... broken neck... don't know how he made out after that, but we stayed in the "allowed" area where it was safe from the undertoe and all...

That accident made some of us realise the "power" of the ocean and how it should be treated with respect!

Don't want to see those boards anywhere near me, but on the beach, on their stands!
