Before and After

This photo was taken around 1890 on the sands of Waikiki from the Baker Van-Dyke collection. Do you remember which picture I posted earlier resembles this location?

  1. No, I do not remember. I do remember what the beach was like when I was first there in 1953 and it was almost identical to this. From here you could see Diamond Head like you can in this photo. That pier wasn't there then.

    Behind me at some distance was what we called the "White Elephant" which was a huge hotel on the beach. Across the street to the left, was a few hotels about 4 stories tall.

    It wasn't much different.
